Abstract
Forestry plays an important role in the economic and social development in the Andean region of the Department of Cochabamba, Bolivia. The region possesses a large diversity of indigenous and cultivated forest species. The integration of remote sensing with the combination of TM data from Landsat and SAR data from RADARSAT in the management process and the mapping of forestry resources will assist in the development of management scenarios and the evaluation of environmental impact of infrastructure projects. The objective of this study is to identify species in reforested areas and to evaluate the development state of the plantations and finally to assist in preparing the forestry map. We have used classification methods based on the vegetation indices of a Landsat image and the textural measures of RADARSAT image (F2). The combination of these images provides us with a valid monitoring methodology for the forestry plantations. Several evolutionary tests of the classification were made."--Résumé abrégé par UMI.
