Abstract
Le sujet de ce mémoire est donc la traduction en français de "Across the River and Out of Trees" de Northrop Frye, "When the Past Becomes History: The Half-Century in Non-Fiction Prose" de George Woodcock et "Fields of Force in Canadien Art 1930 to 1980" d'Aba Bayefsky et Humphrey N. Milnes. || Abstract : In commemoration of the fiftieth year of continuous publication of the University of Toronto Quarterly, the editors W.J. Keith and B.-Z. Shek decided to devote a special issue of the journal to the event, and to publish the collection of essays as a book entitled The Arts in Canada; The Last Fifty Years. This book is therefore a collection of essays where the contributors were asked to discuss the evolution that has taken place within their own field during the last fifty years in Canada. The subject of this thesis is the translation into French of three of these essays dealing with different aspects of culturel life in Canada. The first one was written by Northrop Frye and is entitled "Across the River and Out of the Trees". Mr. Frye discusses here one of his favourite subjects, the evolution of culture in Canada. "When the Past Becomes History: The Half-Century in Non-Fiction Prose" by George Woodcock deals with different genres in non-fiction prose: Canadien criticism, history and biography. The last essay chosen is about visuel arts. "Fields of Force in Canadien Art, 1930 to 1980" was written by Aba Bayefsky et Humphrey N. Milnes. Preceding the translation is an introduction which will bring out a short resume of the ideas developed in the essays and a few points of criticism.
